Project Coordinator – IRCE

The Institute of Human Virology (IHVN) is a leading and reputable non-governmental organization addressing infectious and non-infectious diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and cancer through the provision of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, capacity building, research, and care and support services. IHVN is in partnership with local and international organizations and the different tiers of the government of Nigeria at national, state and local levels. IHVN through our research hub project in International Research Centre of Excellence, GDRS project is part of the Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa) consortium. The position requires the individual to work closely with the Research Hub Manager to support project deliverables and milestones collaboratively with the partner institutions. The position is within IRCE in Abuja, Nigeria. The GDRS project is implemented in collaboration with AKROS, that brings on board expertise in geospatial intelligence to strengthen disease surveillance in resource-limited contexts and drive the delivery and impact of health interventions for the past 10+years. This project is implemented in Ghana collaborating closely with the University of Ghana West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP).

Project Overview

Under the supervision of the Research Hub Manager, the project coordinator is to support project deliverables and milestones collaboratively with the partner institutions. They also perform the following roles: 

  • Coordinate the overall activities for the GDRS project.
  • Organize and schedule project related meetings.
  • Attending project meetings and taking clear and concise meeting notes and action points.
  • Ensure budgets and other financial documents and reports are up to date.
  • Work on collating technical and financial reports for submission to NIH (mid-year report and annual RPPR).
  • Put together budgets for final approvals.
  • Follow up with administrative process through finance, compliance, and other related departments at IHVN.
  • Maintain and organize project documents for access by the project team.
  • Participate in literature reviews and systematic reviews for the research group.
  • Create social media content and handle INFORM Africa social media channels as well as develop science communication materials for dissemination.
  • Participate in community engagement activities in collaboration with the community advisory board.

Responsibilities

The project coordinator is to Develop and maintain project plans outlining tasks, timelines, dependencies, resource requirements, Coordinate project activities and facilitate effective communication among team members, stakeholders, and external partners while following the company’s regulations and policies.

Required competencies

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Efficient computer skills: >90% Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and consistently to produce timely and high-quality work.
  • A team player.
  • Proficient in high impact influencing and persuasive techniques, able to represent the organization to donors, collaborators/partners and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate baseline knowledge of laboratory techniques like sample management and sample handling.

Education and Experience:

  • B.Sc degree in laboratory sciences, Natural Sciences or Public Health
  • Master’s degree in public health or its equivalent is an added advantage.
  • Four years working experience in a similar capacity. Experience of up to 2 years specific at IHVN will be an added advantage.
